Sample Letter for Attending CATESOL
Do you need to submit a letter to your supervisor to request funding for the conference? Below is a letter you can copy, paste, and modify to use for your request.
We've supplied a link to Word version at the bottom of this page as well.
Dear [insert name],
I would like to attend the CATESOL Annual Conference, October 3 to 6, in San Jose, CA. The conference is one of the state’s most influential English language teaching events with well over 1,000 attendees and will provide an invaluable professional development experience.
Here are just a few of the opportunities I would take advantage of so I can support student learning at our school:
• Hearing from thought-provoking and dynamic educator and student speakers;
• Networking with educators from across California and the United States to share ideas and best practices; and
• Meeting with vendors and participating in hands-on learning experiences I can use to produce positive outcomes for students in our school and our community.
Basic registration gives me access to four days of learning, plenary speakers, an exhibitor hall, and networking events for just [insert rate (click on link and then Registration) based on time of registration and CATESOL membership status]. (Keep if you would like to attend: I can also attend a special pre-conference workshop on advocating for our students and program for an additional $120.)
It is also important to note that CATESOL membership gives me access to year-round learning and the opportunity to contribute to the field. I receive a discount on conference registration by being a CATESOL member.
I have listed below specific topics that are applicable to my job and are directly related to initiatives we are working on. The information I will gather at the CATESOL conference will reduce the time and costs necessary to complete these projects, and I will use the strategies I learn to help advance other projects at our school.
[List the topics you’re interested in learning about].
Feel free to browse the conference website and suggest other topics that I might explore.
Thank you for considering this incredible professional development opportunity. Together, we can create engaging learning experiences that will help our students succeed.
Sincerely,
[Signature]
